Referred Counselling

Our service is open, we are taking referrals for face-to-face, telephone and online sessions.

Our counselling service offers the opportunity for you to talk to someone in a warm, confidential, judgement-free space about issues that might be affecting your life

The type of counselling we offer is person-centred and non-directive, and we offer a subsidised service for people who have chronic mental, physical and emotional health issues and low incomes.

If this is you, ask your Doctor, a medical professional, healthcare practitioner or support worker to refer you to us.

50mins, 1 session per week (same day/time)

We offer up to 15 sessions

The Referral Process:

  • Your Doctor/healthcare practitioner/support worker needs to contact Phoenix Health and Wellbeing and pass on your contact details.
  • They need to explain briefly why you need the referral, and pass on your details by ringing 0113 234 0818 – it will take just a few minutes.
  • We will confirm we have received your referral.
  • You will be screened by one of our counsellors. This is nothing to worry about, it is just to ensure that our service is right for your needs.
  • Once this has been completed, we will then contact you via phone call and discuss your availability, counsellor preference and session cost.
  • When there is a counsellor available to see you, we will ring you to let you know that an appointment has become free.  We will offer you up to 2 appointments so don’t worry if you can’t make the first appointment that is offered.

Usually there will be a waiting period of up to 5 months in between your initial referral and seeing a counsellor. The length of time that you wait will depend on a number of factors, such as your availability. We wish there wasn’t a waiting list and will try and keep your wait as short as we can.

What to expect in your first session:

  • The first session you attend is an opportunity for you to meet your counsellor and to see whether counselling may help you.
  • After this session, if you and your counsellor want to proceed, you will be offered weekly sessions at the same day and time.
  • These sessions will last for 50 minutes.
  • During this time you will be free to talk to your counsellor and explore any issues that you have.
