Myofascial Release Therapy

Gentle | Healing | Slow

Myofascial release therapy works with fascia, an uninterrupted network of connective tissue running throughout your whole body. Fascia surrounds, protects, binds and separates muscles, bones and organs.

As a result of postural habits, injury or emotional trauma, fascia can become restricted, meaning that muscles and bones can’t move freely and effectively, which creates dysfunction across the whole system.

Our therapist, Jeni, is highly skilled in this form of therapy. In her own words, Myofascial release therapy:

seeks to release these restrictions and restore movement and ease in the body. It is a gentle non-invasive treatment that enables your body to find its own path to healing and is based on the belief that every body has the capacity to heal itself. Each session is personalised to your needs and what your body is asking for in the moment, and no two sessions will be the same.

It uses gentle sustained pressure, combined with heat from the therapist’s hands, to encourage the fascia to reorganise, lengthen and release. Most of the techniques are held for five minutes or longer. Direct soft tissue release techniques are also used in order to work more deeply into specific muscles. The slow nature of this work is designed to create the space you need to heal.

When you come along for your session the therapist will start by asking a series of questions about your health and what you hope to get from your treatment.

You will then be left to undress in private in the therapy room and lie on a couch under towels. During the body massage the therapist will use the towels to ensure that you are always covered. Only the part of your body being massaged will be uncovered at any one time.

  • After your session, you may feel more open with increased flexibility
