The Referral Process:
Your Doctor/healthcare practitioner/support worker needs to contact Phoenix Health and Wellbeing and pass on your contact details.
They need to explain briefly why you need the referral, and pass on your details by ringing 0113 234 0818 – it will take just a few minutes.
We will confirm we have received your referral.
You will be screened by one of our counsellors. This is nothing to worry about, it is just to ensure that our service is right for your needs.
Once this has been completed, we will then contact you via phone call and discuss your availability, counsellor preference and session cost.
When there is a counsellor available to see you, we will ring you to let you know that an appointment has become free. We will offer you up to 2 appointments so don’t worry if you can’t make the first appointment that is offered.
Usually there will be a waiting period of up to 5 months in between your initial referral and seeing a counsellor. The length of time that you wait will depend on a number of factors, such as your availability. We wish there wasn’t a waiting list and will try and keep your wait as short as we can.
What to expect in your first session:
The first session you attend is an opportunity for you to meet your counsellor and to see whether counselling may help you.
After this session, if you and your counsellor want to proceed, you will be offered weekly sessions at the same day and time.
These sessions will last for 50 minutes.
During this time you will be free to talk to your counsellor and explore any issues that you have.
