Who are the clinics for and how do they help?

The clinics are available to people who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and are currently undergoing hormone therapy (ADT). Ear acupuncture is proven to alleviate some of the side-effects of ADT. It is currently provided to patients by the NHS, but only a limited number of sessions. The purpose of our clinics is to provide an affordable continuation of the treatment.

Having reviewed the currently available literature, we are able to confidently state that acupuncture, when used as an adjunct therapy, is a safe practice with the potential to control and relieve symptoms of ADT.

Each clinic has capacity for 10 people. As well as the benefits of the acupuncture itself, the clinics provide regular group support which has proven to be extremely beneficial for reducing feelings of isolation, creating a sense of camaraderie and sharing ways of coping with the challenges of living with such a diagnosis.

The Referral Process:

Your Doctor/healthcare practitioner/support worker needs to contact Phoenix Health and Wellbeing and pass on your contact details.

They need to ring us on 0113 234 0818 – it will take just a few minutes.

We will contact you to confirm we have received your referral and book you in. If the clinics are full, we will add you to our waiting list.

Come to your first appointment to meet our acupuncturist and the rest of the group.

We ask for a small donation towards the sessions if you can afford it. There is currently no waiting list for the clinics.

Acupuncture for prostate cancer

We run weekly ear acupuncture clinics for men with prostate cancer who are receiving or have received hormone therapy (ADT). Ear acupuncture has been found in clinical research to be helpful in reducing the unpleasant side effects of ADT

  • I know that the flushes haven’t just deteriorated naturally because if I miss an acupuncture session I can really tell the difference. I still get hot flushes, but since I started having ear acupucture, I don’t get anywhere near as many as I used to and the severity is reduced

If you would like to book onto a clinic, ask your Doctor, a medical professional, healthcare practitioner or support worker to refer you to us.
