What’s on at Phoenix Health and Wellbeing in Spring 2018

We are always busy trying to spread the word about Phoenix Health and Wellbeing and the work that we do.  We want more people to be aware of the need to keep the body and mind in good shape and also be aware of what to do if they become unwell.  We have, what is for us, a busy timetable of activities coming up in Spring 2018. Come along and join us or get involved!

Welcome Spring

Spring into action!

  • Charity Ball

We have just had our Charity Ball. It was held on Saturday 10th March and was a great night. The Ball raises vital funds for our charitable work and is a good chance for us to meet local residents and business people in a relaxed and fun setting.  This year we managed to raise £5,100 so a massive thank you to everyone who came along or donated prizes for the event

  • Leeds Wellbeing Week

The third Leeds Wellbeing Week which runs from Monday 19th March 2018 and we are getting involved! You may not have heard about this event. It takes place each year and is an opportunity for organisations like ours to promote the therapies that they deliver and generally spread the word about wellbeing! This year we are holding three lunch time talks.  They are free to attend so why not come along:

Acupuncture and Relaxation by Giles Watts

Giles is a fully qualified and very experienced acupuncturist.  He runs our Wednesday low cost clinic alongside Chris Wadsworth.  They are a formidable double act on a Wednesday but for this talk Giles is flying solo to deliver information about how acupuncture can help the body and mind to relax.

Date 19/03/2018, time 12 noon, location Phoenix Health and Wellbeing

Who Looks After You? by Gill Trevor

Gill takes a serious look at the physiological effects of stress and shares tips and techniques for dispelling the waste bi-products of our ancient stress response. You’ll leave this session understanding more about why stress makes you ache and what to do about it!

Date 20/03/2018, time 12 noon, location Phoenix Health and Wellbeing

Stress Management by Jill Pickering from Help Through Hypnotherapy

Jill will be speaking about how to identify stress and stress factors. Jill will explore the mental and physical effects of stress and teach us some helpful coping techniques, like mindfulness and deep breathing.

  • Wellbeing Day – North Leeds Medical Practice

Saturday 24th March will see us at North Leeds Medical Practice’s Wellbeing Day. We are going along to give a talk about stress management and demonstrate some of the wonderful relaxing massage techniques that we can deliver at our Centre. The day is aimed at patients of the Practice and is open from 11am until 14:30.  We are looking forward to meeting other services and also the patients who come along on the day.

  • Easter

Then its straight into Easter which is early this year. Good Friday falls on Friday 30th March and Easter Monday is 2nd April. We will be closed on both days for some well earned rest and recuperation!

  • Fundraising Gig

Great excitement! In May we are holding a fund raising gig. The event is being held at Hyde Park Book Club on Wednesday 2nd  May. Ruthie, a local band are going to play a mix of their original tracks with some pop and rock thrown in for good measure. It should be a great night.  Tickets are £8 on the door and doors open at 8pm.  Come along and enjoy!

  • Leeds Half Marathon!

Our very own Reception Manager, Rachel Menzies is going to run the Leeds Half Marathon to raise funds for Phoenix H&W. While Rachel is relatively fit – she goes climbing so she must be – as she says herself running is very different to climbing! She has never attempted a long distance run before and her training has taken her up to 4 miles – leaving only another 9 miles to go! If you would like to sponsor Rachel follow this link https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=RachelMenzies&pageUrl=1
