Craniosacral therapy is developed from cranial osteopathy pioneered by Dr William Sutherland in the early 1900’s. He discovered intrinsic movements of the bones in the head and different rhythms in the body. He found that these movements were inextricably linked to mental and emotional health.
Our bodies cope daily with physical and emotional stresses which can cause the body tissues to contract. We rarely realize how tight we are inside and do not take time to relax and allow the tissues a chance to release by themselves. Craniosacral therapy helps to relax your overstimulated nervous system and promote rest and relaxation which in turn enhances your body’s natural ability to heal.
When you come along for your first session the therapist will ask you some questions about your health. After this consultation you will lie down on a couch on your back. It’s best to wear comfortable lose fitting clothing for this treatment as you remain dressed throughout.
During the treatment the therapist applies very gentle pressure to specific points along your spine and around your head and face. It is extremely gentle and very relaxing.
